Carol Schram: Thatcher Demko is named first star as Canucks down Sabres; face Wings next The Vancouver Canucks continued to pull points out of their January homestand as Thatcher Demko made 36 saves to raise his NHL record to 2-0-0 and help his team to a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

Did anybody see that coming? Maybe the same people who projected that the Canucks would be sitting in the second wild-card spot in the West after beating Buffalo??

I've taken it upon myself to inform rueby that he's been replaced as head cheerleader.

I admit this team is not as bad as I thought it would be, unfortunately for the long term success of the franchise, it's a paper dragon.

The signing of beagle helped us weather the injury storm and will result in vantel being right about us drafting between 10 and 15.

Unfortunately, this will be beagles best season as a canuck and by the time we're an actual contending team he'll be an Eriksson size bust.

I still don't get the idea that building from the bottom of the roster is better then building from the top, you win with stars, not bums.

Hopefully they can unload gagner to some sucker and trade Sutter for a 2nd before next season begins as his role is redundant with beagle. Ideally they can trade beagle with a 6th rounder next deadline for a 7th to avoid his production falloff.

While some disagree, having hughes and Karlsson as an offensive pairing would teach Hughes alot about playing and would be a dominant offensive force for years.

I also panarin and would grab my ankles to sign him to play on our top line.

It's not going to happen but if we had a high pick this year and signed those two players, we'd be an instant contender while still maintaining future prospect depth and talent.

TLDR: beagle and Sutter are redundant, trade one. Sign allstar talent, not over the hill "champions" to retirement contracts.

If we can get that first rounder from Edmonton, that would be real nice.

Some Canucks fans have lived in pain for so long, they are too scared of changing that.

Just proves the team doesn't miss the Sedin's late career production.

I was going the whole team in general like Vanek Sedins Burrows Hansen . I was leaning towards if you get young fresh legs there they could probably get the job done. The down slide goes back to 2013 not only the Sedins

There was a select few who thought the Sedin's needed to be here for another year. They are also the same people that thought this team (unless they tank hard) was going to be a bottom 5 team. As you can see wrong on both accounts.

The vast majority of posters believed this was a bottom 5 team at the beginning of the season, yourself included.
Only Rueby, Nighty, Lordy and Telly were saying this was a bubble team during preseason.

I didn't believe this team was a bottom 5 team. I didn't project where they would finish. I picked them to get 79 points and then raised it to 81 points after the first 4 games.

At this moment I want one long term contract over 5 years EP40. I don't believe in long term contracts and I wish the hell GMs and Owners would make 5 years the max. Too many teams get (frank)ed over with 6, 7, and 8 year deals
